Dr. Győző Drozdy wins Puskás Tivadar Award

Dr. Győző Drozdy, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Telenor Hungary, has been granted the Puskás Tivadar Award, one of the most prestigious accolades of the Hungarian telecommunications industry. During the three decades of his career, he played a key role in launching Hungary’s first GSM service, supported all stages of industry evolution and is an active contributor to the ongoing implementation of 5G mobile networks.

At the annual general meeting of the Science Association for Communications and IT (Hírközlési és Informatikai Tudományos Egyesület, HTE) on 22 May 2019, dr. Győző Drozdy was granted this year’s Puskás Tivadar Award established by HTE in 1960 to recognize outstanding achievements in the development of telecommunications, broadcasting, IT and content management.  With the Award, the organization rewarded dr. Győző Drozdy’s life’s work, his commitment to the adoption and promotion of mobile radio telephone systems in Hungary, his academic achievements and contribution to science education.

Holding a degree in electrical and communications engineering, dr. Győző Drozdy actively participated in the establishment of Hungary’s current digital mobile telephony landscape. He has been senior management member of Telenor Hungary (formerly Pannon GSM) since September 1993 where he was appointed to Chief Corporate Affairs Officer in August 2018.

He was closely involved in launching Hungary’s first commercial GSM service, the establishment of the nationwide mobile network, but he also contributed to the development of 3G mobile standards. He has been representing Telenor within the GSM Association and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute for decades.

Győző Drozdy earned his MSc from the communications engineering degree programme of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of Budapest University of Technology in 1978. In 1981, he obtained his doctorate degree with summa cum laude from Budapest University of Technology. After this, he worked as a senior research fellow in semiconductor technology and telecommunications projects in Finland for seven years. He is the author of nearly sixty academic and trade publications.

Dr. Győző Drozdy also holds the Aschner Lipót Award (1998) and the Gábor Dénes Award (1999).
